2023 WAFO Dulce Esperanza Summer Program Recap

If you have been following our Instagram account you are probably aware of what a busy summer it has been for the Warwick Area Farmworkers Organization “Dulce Esperanza” Summer Program. The 2023 season Summer Program was a success once again thanks to our volunteers, educators, parents, and the support of the community. The children were able to have a wonderful summer full of fun, educational development, multimedia activities, field trips, and experiences they would not have been able to have if it were not for the program. Thanks to another year of generous monetary support from our corporate, public, and private donors we were able to offer the program to children regardless of their parents’ financial ability to pay for it. Many of the children’s parents do directly contribute and donate to the program, but because of the continued economic challenges faced by the agriculture farm worker community; these donations helped to offset these costs making the program accessible to all the children.

We are proud of this continued financial support from the local community whose direct support enables us to offer a top level summer enrichment program that helps ensure the future educational, emotional, and physical well being of all the children in the program. So many children who have completed our program have gone on to higher education or vocational programs. That success has been built on all they experienced in this program and none of that is possible without your help through volunteering, monetary donations, and your vocal support of our work in the community. We (and the children as well as their parents) cannot thank you enough for that!

Please take a look at our Dulce Esperanza Summer Program newsletter here. It is in PDF format and can be read with Acrobat Reader or your web browser. There are links to additional pictures, information on the success educational metrics achieved by the program (spoiler alert– they are excellent) and a great overview of all the program did this year with the children. We are very proud of this work as we are of our staff and the children themselves. We continue to be appreciative of all the parents who make our programs work at the level they do. Their support whether it be volunteer, donations, or willingness to do whatever we need help with to make it work has been nothing short of an exceptional story of community, cooperation and achievement.

We look forward to repeating and building on this year’s success in 2024 when once again we’ll host the program. Between now and then though there is much work to do as we have shifted to our fall programs and are readying our winter programs. These programs are important to provide the children with tutoring, after school care, and further educational enrichment such as “knitting club” that allow the children to learn new skills as well as socialize.
