WAMC Begins 2020 Gift Drive Drop Off

The Warwick Area Migrant Committee began Phase 4 of the 2020 Christmas Amazon Wishlist Gift Drive that we have officially nicknamed “Project Santa Claus”!

Due to the generous outpouring of support from the community, our volunteers, and the many sponsors who stepped up to help out, we were able to fulfill most of the migrant farm worker families’ wish lists that were posted in the WAMC Christmas Amazon Wishlist. The WAMC was able to also order additional gifts because of those who donated Amazon gift cards to the effort or mailed us other gift cards we could use to purchase items for the families. The result is were able to successfully complete the initial two phases of “Project Santa Claus” on schedule.

As the gifts arrived they were placed in boxes until each family’s gift box was completed. Our little offices in the Alamo Community Center became Santa’s Workshop as it quickly filled with boxes filled with donations. The completed boxes were decorated by our volunteers and we started delivery two weeks ago to the first ten families. The children and adults in our programs were so excited and grateful for these gifts! They were blown away by the support shown by the community and could not believe just how many people helped them out in their time of need! It was a small, but powerful Christmas miracle for each of these families.

The WAMC continued to deliver more gift boxes to families last week and we are now making our final trips to the migrant farm workers and their families who are in our programs this week– just in time for Christmas morning! Everything has moved on schedule and we are so pleased to report that no child in the program will go without a present come Christmas morning this year.

Thank you all to who helped support Project Santa Claus and make Christmas happen for the many migrant farm workers and their families in our programs– especially the children! Felix navidad!
